Wingenbach Law Corporation (“WL,” “the Firm,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through our website and in the course of providing legal services, why we collect it, how we use and disclose it, and the choices and rights available to you. This Policy applies to clients, prospective clients, website visitors, and other individuals who provide us with personal information, and does not apply to our own lawyers, employees, or contractors.

We are a boutique litigation firm based in Vancouver, British Columbia. Our handling of personal information is governed principally by British Columbia's Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA), and, where applicable to particular activities, the federal Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).

We may collect personal information directly from you, and in some cases from third parties (such as opposing counsel, courts, tribunals, insurers, or public records), including:

• Contact information: name, mailing address, email address, and telephone number.

• Identification and verification information we are required to collect under the Law Society of British Columbia's client identification and verification rules.

• Information relevant to your legal matter, which may include sensitive information such as medical records, employment records, or financial information, depending on the nature of your file.

• Billing and payment information.

• Information you submit through our website, such as through a contact or consultation-request form.

• If you subscribe to our newsletter or mailing list, your name and email address.

• Technical information collected automatically through our website, such as IP address, browser type, device information, and pages visited, typically through cookies or similar tracking technologies.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use personal information to:

• Provide, administer, and bill for legal services, including complying with our client identification and verification obligations under Law Society Rules.

• Communicate with you about your matter, our services, or your inquiry.

• Assess and respond to consultation requests submitted through our website.

• Send newsletters or other firm communications, where you have subscribed or otherwise consented to receive them.

• Meet our legal, regulatory, and professional obligations, including those owed to the Law Society of British Columbia.

• Maintain, secure, and improve our website and internal systems.

3. Disclosure of Your Information

We do not sell personal information. We may disclose personal information to:

• Opposing counsel, courts, tribunals, and other parties to a proceeding, as necessary to represent you.

• Experts, agents, process servers, and other service providers retained to assist with your matter.

• Insurers, co-counsel, or referring counsel, where relevant to your matter.

• Service providers who support our practice, such as our practice management, accounting, IT, and cloud storage providers, including tools that may use artificial intelligence for document management, research, or drafting support, subject to our confidentiality obligations.

• Regulators or governmental authorities, where required by law or requested through valid legal process.

 

Some of our service providers may store or process information outside Canada, including in the United States, which means personal information may become subject to the laws of that jurisdiction, including lawful access by its authorities.

4. Consent

By providing personal information to us, you consent to its collection, use, and disclosure as described in this Policy, except where we are permitted or required by law to collect, use, or disclose personal information without consent. Where we rely on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time, subject to legal or contractual restrictions and reasonable notice, by contacting our Privacy Officer below. Withdrawing consent may affect our ability to provide legal services to you.

5. Cookies and Website Analytics

Our website may use cookies and similar technologies to operate correctly, remember your preferences, and understand how visitors use our site, including through website analytics (wix analytics, google analytics, meta/facebook pixel) and, where applicable, marketing tools. You can control or disable cookies through your browser settings, though some parts of our website may not function properly if you do so.

We retain personal information for as long as necessary to fulfil the purposes described in this Policy, including to comply with our professional, regulatory, and legal obligations as a law firm, such as client file retention requirements. When personal information is no longer needed, we take reasonable steps to destroy or anonymize it.

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards designed to protect personal information against loss, theft, and unauthorized access, use, or disclosure. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Our website and services are not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
